Each cluster in this snapshot represents a group of Digg users who have voted in favor of the same story. Each story is represented by a dark circle. This displays good continuation on a per-story level, since, by looking at each cluster, it is easy to determine which users have voted on that particular story, since they are arranged around the same curve, which in this case, takes the form of a circle. Additionally, good continuation is used, in an unconventional 3D way, to compel the user to dive into stories which have a number of Diggers attached to it. The small porthole in the center acts as a visual convergence point for the Diggers' proboscis, and a target for the user.
This is the left navigation bar for the Windows Vista page. Notice how the content of the expanded bottom element seem to be more closely grouped than the top level elements. The spacing makes the elements in the "Information For" subcategory seem more akin to one another than the top level elements.
Each thumbnail is arranged into one of two groups. The first, larger group, is displayed in the center of the page. The second group is displayed at the bottom. The elements in each group appear to coalesce since they are closer together than other elements on the page, such as the groups themselves. (One might have to look at the snapshot at a distance to see this macro effect.)
This is the YouTube tabbed navigation bar. It displays similarity since the tabs are repetitions of the same styled tab, and their styling clearly indicates that they are pieces of the same whole.
This is an element used on Google to navigate to different pages of search results. It shows similarities in the o's, which are representations of page indexes. The o's seem more connected than the G or the gle due to their uniformity in shape and color. A sub-layer of similarity sets the yellow o's apart from the red o due to color.
This is one of the elements on the Yahoo front page used for site service navigation. This displays uniform connectedness since all six buttons share the same enclosing shaded box. Additionally, within the box, this example displays uniform connectedness between each icon and the text with which it shares a button. The button is the element unifying each icon-label pair.
